長谷川冬樹（４４・独身）は、「子ども達の未来の為に」を掲げ、家庭内教育や進路指導をサポートする会社の経営者である。しかし、彼自身は未来にも無関心であり、今生きていること自体にも懐疑的であった。目にするもの、耳にしたもの、記憶においても全てまやかしのような虚無感を感じていた。そんな彼にも、心が和む時がある。それは社員アキ（25）の存在である。何故か彼女を幼い実の娘のように感じていて、微笑ましく接していた。そんなある日に、自分にはアキと同じ歳の娘がいたことを知らされる。学生時代の恋人の弟にあたる者からの報告であった。しかしそこには、先日彼女は死亡したという事実も含まれていた。彼女は冬樹の存在は知っていたらしい。冬樹は、生前の彼女の思いを巡らそうとする。しかし、想像の中でしか、彼女を想う事ができないやり場のない自分と、生きる意味すら感じられない虚無的な自分との相克の中で、避けていた故母の存在が去来する。冬樹は、彼女が母である前に、生と対峙し苦悶していた旨を悟る。そして、自分の生や存在を受け入れていく。

A story about a man who is skeptical of being alive and explores absurdity. 

Hatsukawa Fuyuki, a 44-year-old unmarried man, runs a company that supports household education and career guidance under the banner of "for the future of children." However, he himself is indifferent to the future and skeptical of his own existence. Everything he sees, hears, and remembers feels like a sham or a void. Despite this, he finds solace in the presence of his employee, Aki, who he perceives as his own young daughter and treats with fondness. One day, he learns that he actually has a daughter the same age as Aki, from the younger brother of his former lover. Sadly, he also learns that she recently passed away, and that she was aware of his existence. Fuyuki reflects on his feelings towards her and tries to imagine her thoughts before she passed. However, he is torn between his imagined emotions for her and his own sense of emptiness and lack of purpose. In the midst of this conflict, memories of his deceased mother, whom he had been avoiding, resurface. Fuyuki realizes that his daughter, like his mother before her, had also faced her own struggles and turmoil before her passing. He gradually accepts his own life and existence
